The wind and the dirt, the wellness and the evilness, the dark and the light, the fire and the water, go and come, die and born. The Xicalcolihqui (the steeped fret), over Mitla walls, has movement, is going and coming back, is the past and the future, is the eternal universe movement that bring us to the world for the first ages, that make the planets, the stars, the sky and the gods who make us over the earth. Xicalcolihqui is the snail that has been cut, the snail that give the spirit to human been. How? You should be wondering… So, check up the snail story below.

El viento y el polvo, la bondad y la maldad, la obscuridad y la luz, el fuego y el agua, el ir y el venir, morir y nacer. El Xicalcolihqui (la greca escalonada), sobre las paredes de Mitla, tiene movimiento, está yendo y viniendo, es el pasado y el futuro, es el movimiento eterno del universo que nos proporciona el mundo desde las primeras eras, es aquello que hace los planetas, las estrellas, el cielo y a los dioses quienes nos pusieron sobre la tierra.

Máscara Tláloc 

Esta máscara pertenece al dios Tláloc, dios de la lluvia, los truenos y el agua. Responsable tanto de las inundaciones como de las sequias, al mismo tiempo responsable de hacer brotar retoños. En Tenochtitlan, la mitad de la pirámide mayor estaba dedicada a este dios. En algunos mitos de la creación, se dice que es él el responsable del cuarto sol, cuya creación fue destruida por agua y sus hombres convertidos en peces. En la mitología azteca, al igual que en otras de Mesoamérica, se concebían las eras por soles, hasta llegar a un quinto sol en el que nos encontramos, en el cual el hombre ha sido creado con maíz nixtamalizado (el mismo material de la tortilla). Es un dios de fertilidad y sin embargo también es un dios en suma iracundo.

This mask belongs to Tláloc, the god of rain, lighting, thunder and water. He is responsible of floods and droughts, and also about sprout. At Tenochtitlan, main Aztec city, the half of the main pyramid was dedicated to him. In some myths of creation, is said that he is responsible of the creation of the forth sun, it’s creation were destroyed by water and the man of this age became on fishes. In Aztec mythology, the same as some others in Mesoamerica, was believed that the eras were separated by different suns, were 5 until us, who were madden with corn prepared the same way the tortillas are prepared since the beginning. Tlaloc is a god of fertility but he is also very anger.
